The HESC attempts, as far as possible, to provide a supporting function to different environmental conservation and related organizations. This section will review the different fields in which the Centre contributes towards the conservation of wildlife.

Support to departments of Environmental Authorities

Conservation of wildlife, with the emphasis on endangered species, remains one of the main objectives of the HESC. In this capacity the Centre has amongst others, initiated and supported the formation of the Endangered Species Protection Unit (ESPU). The ESPU, that operated as a specialized policy unit, played a major role in assisting the different Environmental Authorities in curbing poaching and illegal dealing with protected animal and plant species. This unit has since been absorbed in the national Police Services.

The HESC, where possible, also offers its assistance by availing their facilities to support different environmental protection organizations as well as the different Conservation Authorities.
