FUNDRAISING EVENTS

A number of successful events have been arranged to raise funds for the hesc. This is a very effective way of raising much-needed funds, and is often great fun too! We have included a few of our more successful events below.
Should you be interested in assisting us to raise funds through initiatives such as these, please contact us.

THE HESC | SABIE RIVER SUN GOLF DAY - 17 JULY 2009
We enjoyed a superb round of golf on the 17th July 2009 (hosted by SABIE RIVER SUN FOR THE HOEDSPRUIT ENDANGERED SPECIES CENTRE).
The very enthusiastic participants arrived full-force to enjoy a marvellous day in the sun. A total of 11 four-balls had reserved their spaces in advance.
We were thrilled at the amount raised from the auction and raffle alone. We would like to thank Edward Coetzer from Sportsbase who handled the auction, and also gave us a percentage of the 4 items on auction.
Martin Vee was the formidable MC for the evening - and is also a talented musician himself.
The staff from Sabie River Sun were simply unbelievable, and very supportive. We are looking forward to putting on this very enjoyable event on an annual basis.
A total of R50 000 was raised for the endangered and vulnerable wildlife housed at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre.

South African Tourism Golf Day - September 2007 (The Netherlands)
On the 20th September 2007, South African Tourism in the Netherlands arranged a golf day and kindly invited the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre to participate.
Various items from the Centre (including a painting and clothing) were silently auctioned to participants at the event. Funds raised went towards adopting a cheetah at the Centre.
The HESC also donated a prize of a one-week conservation course to a lucky winner who would in the process gain valuable knowledge of and experience in nature conservation.
SAT raised a staggering ZAR 74,400.00 for the HESC through this initiative. The cheque was handed over on the 6th March 2008, when a delegation of Dutch corporates visited South Africa with South African Tourism.

Gallo / Sebeka Wines Event - September 2007 ( New York, USA)
"Sebeka was the name of an orphaned cheetah cub that became the focus of a South African wildlife conservation movement nearly 50 years ago.
South African Conservationist, Lente Roode, rescued the cub after its mother was killed by a farmer in South Africa. This unique relationship inspired Lente to dedicate her life to save the Cheetahs and other wildlife species in her native South Africa and begin the Hoedspruit Center for Endangered Species near Krueger National Park.
A new generation of South African wines, named “Sebeka”, has arrived in the U.S. from the Western Cape of South Africa. While wine has been made in South Africa for more than 350 years, many American wine drinkers have yet to discover the bold and distinctive style of South African winemaking. If consumers at the Boston Wine Expo and Savor Dallas are any indication, American consumers are going to love what they find with Sebeka.
The Sebeka line of wines includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, a Cabernet-Pinotage blend, and a flagship proprietary blend of Shiraz and Pinotage which is labeled as Cape Blend. Pinotage is a uniquely South African grape, created there more than 80 years ago by crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsault. The personality of the wine is embodied in the label, which features a Cheetah running in full stride against the backdrop of the South African bushveld."
A portion of all Sebeka wine sold in the USA is sent back to the HESC as a contribution to ensure the continued existence of this non−profit organisation.
Gallo Wines hosted a "blind dining" evening of culinary and sensory experiences in New York on the 26th September to launch the Sebeka wine range. Lente Roode was present on behalf of the HESC.
Personalities present at the evening included Brooke Shields, seen here with Lente Roode. Also with Mrs Roode are Diego LoPrete & Stephanie Gallo of Gallo Wines; George Neveling of Swartland and Andries Blake, the chief winemaker for Sebeka wines.
