The second category includes all the other animals that are in the care of the HESC. This group includes animals that were brought to, or referred to, the Centre as injured or orphaned individuals and animals confiscated by Environmental Conservation Authorities as well as Animal Welfare Organisations. Some of the animals at the Centre form part of formal agreements with the National Zoological Gardens and Animal Welfare organizations and are thus only in the custodianship of the HESC by mutual agreement. The cheetahs that form part of the National Cheetah Management Programme (NCMP) are also taken into account as far as animal support is concerned. These cheetahs are in temporary custodianship of the Centre until they can be transferred to suitable destinations and do not form part of the breeding programmes at the HESC. Summary of the numbers of all the species that are currently at the Centre
You can read more about each of the animal species through the drop down menu in this section.
